How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

August 24, 2016

Your air conditioner has worked hard this summer and we still have more hot weather to go. Just because the date on the calendar has moved over to fall doesn’t mean you’re done with your AC for the season. Staying up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a couple other tips, can help you maintain your air conditioner while keeping your home comfy too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can build up around your outside unit, specifically during the fall. When the time arrives to rake up the leaves in your yard, make sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can hinder air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down quicker. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it was designed to.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Have your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still remaining cozy. Whenever possible, take advantage of supplemental cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to reach that temperature. You may think shutting off your unit completely will save on energy and help your system, but that makes more work for it to make up when you flip it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another contributing factor that could lead to early system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance

Keeping a well-maintained system with regular, annual AC maintenance is so important. Our professionals will look at your air conditioner thoroughly and be sure the electric is working properly, the coils and filters are clean and so much more. We take a deeper look to catch small problems before they become big breakdowns and turn in to an AC repair appointment.
